Freshly felled timber is full of moisture and said to be ‘green’. Most wood warps and splits as it dries, although how much and how soon depends on the species. Bowls turned green will distort. The manner of distortion is dictated by how the wood grain is aligned within the bowl, so the final shape of the bowl is predetermined. Some have rounded bases so wobble slightly but never tip over. Those with three stubby feet are my Tripod Bowls.
The bowls dated last century have seen regular use, often day-to-day.
